Invented in Italy 20 years ago, Vapor Steam Cleaners have been popular in Europe for many years and are just now taking hold in the United States as more and more people learn of the benefits of vapor steam cleaning. Eco-conscious consumers and people with allergies, in particular, have been impressed by steam vapor cleaning’s ability to clean AND destroy allergens like mold, mildew, bacteria, viruses, dust mites, and other pathogens.

Using steam at temperatures of up to 360 degrees Fahrenheit and pressure up to 150 psi, steam cleaners can soften and dissolve the most stubborn messes, leaving a thoroughly clean surface every time!

Ladybug Steam CleanersThe temperature and pressure levels depend on the grade of the steam cleaner. Residential units operate at the lowest temperatures and pressures, usually a maximum of 310º F and 75 psi, and industrial-grade steam cleaners operate at the highest, up to 360º F and 150 psi.

Please note that most carpets are not designed to withstand the high temperatures produced by steam cleaners, making them only appropriate for spot cleaning and not general use on carpets. For thorough carpet and rug cleaning you’ll need a carpet cleaner.

Quality steam cleaners are becoming easier to find, many can be purchased at a local retailer or online at Amazon also carries many steam cleaner accessories and parts.

How a Vapor Steam Cleaner Works

Vapor Steam Cleaners use low-pressure and high temperature steam to clean, disinfect, and deodorize. Using ordinary tap water, or distilled water if necessary, the steam cleaner heats the water in an internal boiler up to as high as 360 degrees Fahrenheit, creating low-moisture steam vapor, or dry steam. The steam will cool somewhat as it is used, the amount of cooling depends on the length of hose and wand and the type of attachment used.

The change of state from water to steam increases the water’s volume by about 1,600 times, meaning a vapor steam cleaner can produce thousands of gallons of steam per hour from only a few gallons of water. The conversion of water to steam also creates pressure. The combination of heat and pressure effectively loosens dirt, grease, and grime making for easy cleanup.

Dry steam is only about 5-6% water, which is less moisture than is in the air we breathe. Dry steam leaves almost no damp residue on the surface which has just been cleaned and any residual moisture begins to evaporate almost immediately. For instance, a carpet will be completely dry within 15 minutes.
