Too much pet hair! What do I do?

My dogs and cats are prolific shedders, it is embarrassing to have guests! Short of tearing out the carpet, what can I do?

You don’t have to remove your carpet, all you need is a vacuum cleaner that can keep up with the volume of hair that your pets are shedding and the right cleaning regimen.

To keep all that hair in check, you need to vacuum daily, and just before you receive guests.

To cope with large volumes of hair you definitely need a vacuum cleaner that has a powerful brushroll, strong suction, and good capacity. The choice of a bagged or bagless vacuum is primarily a personal preference. We prefer bagless vacuums for dealing with pet hair because we've found they don't harbor pet odors liked bagged vacuums do.

Bagless Vacuums:

We've found the Dyson DC33, LG LUV300B, and Shark Navigator Lift-Away all work well on pet hair.

Dyson vacuums have always performed well in our tests, and the LG LUV300B pulls a very close second. It is nearly as good as the Dysons, but only about half the price. The Dyson DC33 still edges it out in performance, but you will still get excellent suction and overall cleaning abilities with the LUV300B.

The Shark Lift-Away is a compact and lightweight vacuum that has surprising performance for its price and size. The Lift Away has very nice suction and general cleaning abilities. Because it is a compact vacuum it is best suited to smaller spaces. If you’d like more capacity and better bare floor cleaning, you may be interested in the Shark Navigator Pro.

Bagged Vacuums:

You won't find a better quality bagged upright than the Miele S7 Cat & Dog. Miele's are expensive, but well worth it. The S7 is highly effective at removing embedded pet hair from upholstery, pet bedding, carpets, drapes, etc.
