Oreck Speed Sweep Vacuum Cleaner Review

[myrpeditors]

The Oreck Speed Sweep vacuum cleaner (model Tek 100) utilizes twin 9 volt motors powered by a rechargeable Ni-MH battery, so there is no cord to get in the way while vacuuming. The main motor is in the handheld vacuum, which can be removed from the handle with the push of a button. The second motor is in the floor head attachment that houses a revolving agitator brush. Accessories include a crevice tool and upholstery brush and are stored onboard the sweeper handle.

The Oreck Speed Sweep weighs in at only 7 pounds when in full trim (sweeper handle, canister vac, and floor head), making it lightweight and easy to use. The sweeper handle assembly quickly retracts for compact storage or detaches easily to use the canister vacuum cleaner by itself.

To recharge the Speed Sweep, simply remove the battery from the vacuum cleaner and insert into its wall charger. The washable filter is easily serviced as it is located within the dust cup. The Speed Sweep does not use a bag inside the dirt cup, like other handheld or stick vacuum sweepers, and the cup can be removed with one hand.

Oreck has kept ease of use in mind with their design of the Speed Sweep. The handle and accessories attach to the vacuum canister by aligning the guides and sliding into place, they are removed just as easily. The floor head, crevice tool, and upholstery tools can be used with or without the handle in place.

The Oreck Speed Sweep has good suction, long battery life, and easily handles quick pick-ups or areas too small to pull out the full-sized vacuum cleaner. It picks up cat litter, pet hair, dust, and just about anything else that manages to hit the floor, faster than a broom and dust pan.

  1. Bruce Clarke says:

For the first couple of months, this sweeper worked fine. After that, the NiMH battery started to fade. This is usual for these types batteries (why laptops and cell phones don’t use them anymore). The sad part is that Oreck doesn’t provide replacement batteries. So not only did they start with a poor battery, then not to offer a replacement means you will get less than a years use out of this vacuum. Don’t waste your money.

  2. Well, they offer the replacement battery now…For a whopping $39.21. And get this, they now offer the “Speed Sweep” for $49.99 instead of $99 like it was originally. So apparently at that price, I might as well be better off buying a new vacuum rather than just the battery, but since I’ve only used the thing maybe a total of 10 times before the battery refused to charge anymore, I guess I’ll be looking for a different brand because this one while the idea was great, stinks. I think I liked my dirt devil that this was a replacement for, the hand-held part was much less cumbersome and fit in tighter spaces.

  3. I agree with above comments. I have the same problem with Speed Sweep and the battery. Will not hold a charge and will not vaccuum for more than 15 seconds now without running down. Don’t waste your money.
