Oreck Quest Pro Canister Vacuum Review

[myrpeditors]

The Quest Pro impresses right out of the box. Firstly, this is a stunning looking machine! Nothing drab and utilitarian looking about it.

Secondly, it strikes you immediately as a very solid, well-made vacuum that’s going to get the job done without any fuss.

We unpacked our Quest Pro and were vacuuming within minutes. The only “assembly” required is to insert the end of the hose into the top of the vacuum cleaner. The extension wand, floor head, floor brush, and other accessories click together quickly and easily and are interchangeable to suit your cleaning needs in the moment.

New Features:

There are so many new features on the Oreck Quest Pro it is hard to find a place to begin. Common with new releases of an upgraded vacuum model is a new color, maybe a new attachment or two, and possibly a new button, bell or whistle. Oreck went much, much further than that with the Quest Pro.

  • Four 360° pivoting casters allow the Quest Pro to move easily in any direction on all floor surfaces.
  • Includes a 6-foot hose, bare floor tool, dusting brush, and a crevice tool.
  • Separate motor in the powered floor head drives the extra long pile lifting roller brush to comb and groom carpet fibers and help loosen dirt.
  • Six height settings to adjust for different carpet pile heights such as Berber, plush, textured, loop, and frieze.
  • Easy step pedal controls the power, power head brushroll, cord winder, carpet height adjustment, and wand release.
  • Integrated carry handle.
  • 3-year limited warranty.

The Quest Pro has a 5-speed electronic speed control. A touch of a button on the canister increases or decreases motor speed to control suction power, allowing you to vacuum everything from heavy carpets to lightweight throw rugs and draperies. A red light illuminates when the vacuum becomes clogged or the bag needs to be replaced. And the crevice tool and upholstery/dust brush live onboard in a compartment on top of the canister.

The new features don’t stop there. The floor head of the Quest Pro is powered by its own motor AND has dirt sensing technology to monitor how much dirt the vacuum is picking up and relays that information back to you via a red (dirty) or green (clean) LED light. The floor head also has a 6-position manual height adjustment to handle any flooring type your home might have and incorporates swivel steering for more maneuverability.

Independent on/off switches on the floor head and at your fingertip allows the floor head motor to be turned off for vacuuming bare floor surfaces. With no spinning brush, there is no worry of damage to delicate flooring. The floor head features are capped off with a hands free wand release! Simply step on the release collar and the wand pops free for doing edges or above floor work. The wand just as easily clicks back into place to resume floor cleaning duties.

The single most impressive addition to the Oreck Quest Pro has to be the adjustable extension wand. How can we get excited over a wand, you might ask? Simple, the new wand has a spring locking collar, all you do is grasp the collar and push your hand away and the wand extends from 24 to 36 inches or anywhere in between. Wherever you let go of the collar the wand will automatically lock into place. When it is time to shorten the wand, you simply pull the collar towards you. This is a huge improvement over previous Oreck extension wands that we hope to see trickle across the entire Oreck canister vacuum line.

Low Profile

A low profile floor head easily gets into tight spaces and under low obstacles.

Other Highlights:

The longer 25 foot power cord is drawn quickly back into the canister at the touch of a button, no more cord tangles to deal with! Oreck has also reinforced the hose connection into the canister lid, a connection that swivels 360º for more freedom of motion.

Most canister vacuums have two large wheels at the rear and one or two casters up front. The Quest Pro has four, full-motion casters that allow you to push or pull the vacuum in any direction without tripping over it or having to manhandle it.

Performance:

The Oreck Quest Pro canister vacuum is extremely quiet, a mere whisper in comparison to most other vacuum cleaners. It has excellent suction through the extension wand, handle, and hose. The multi-surface floor head does well on all carpet types, including Berber and Frieze carpeting. The bare floor tool (non-powered brush) works very well on all hard surfaces, loosening dust and debris for the vacuum to pick up.

The Quest Pro follows you around quite well, its four casters are set wide apart for good stability, even on deeper pile carpets. The hose and wand do their business properly, while the floor head glides where you direct it.

Edge cleaning is not the best, although, since the wand uncouples so easily, it is no problem at all to switch to the wand for a quick swipe along edges and baseboards, then click the floor head back on to continue with carpet. Floor head controls (brushroll switch, floor height, and handle release) are all easily accessed and operated.

The Quest Pro can be a bit cumbersome for stair work and there is a slight stability issue when the canister is sitting on its end, as it would be to perch on a step.

Above Floor Work:

The Quest Pro has an impressive hose and wand reach of up to 10 feet from the floor, able to get to the tops of bookcases and walls with ease. Using the hose handle by itself is a bit awkward as it is large and bulky, and doesn’t fit into tighter areas very well, add an attachment to the end of the handle and it gets worse. It would be nice to be able to use the hose alone or with the implements without the added bulk of the handle.

The crevice tool, though short, works well. The dust brush is a 2-in-1 tool, that is both a duster and an upholstery tool. The dust brush bristles are fairly short and stiff; longer, softer bristles like those used in the bare floor tool would make the dust brush ideal. The 2-in-1 feature comes in when you remove the brush portion to reveal the upholstery tool, a unique idea, however separating the two will be difficult for those lacking sufficient hand strength.

Maintenance:

Servicing the dust bag and filters on the Quest Pro is all done within the sealed bag compartment. The bag easily slides out of the docking collar while simultaneously closing the integrated dust door on the bag. The washable motor pre-filter is directly behind the dust bag and the replaceable HEPA exhaust filter slips in neatly above the motor. Both filters quickly and firmly snap into place.

Conclusion:

Overall, we are very pleased with the performance of the Oreck Quest Pro canister vacuum. The controls are conveniently located and the filters and dust bag are well placed for efficient operation and ease of maintenance. The abilities and features of this vacuum are impressive and far outweigh the few minor points we disliked.
