Electrolux EL7024 Canister Vacuum Cleaner - Features, Reviews, and Ratings

[include file=/includes/ads/ads-t3-top-right.shtml]

The Electrolux EL7024 Oxygen3™ Canister Vacuum is the fourth edition to the Oxygen3™ vacuum series. It combines the features of the EL7000, EL7020, and EL7025 with an improved floor head, making it the best vacuum in the Oxygen3™ line-up.

The Oxygen3™ vacuum series motor has been designed to create maximum air flow for strong suction. The interior of the Oxygen3 case is aerodynamically engineered to augment the motor’s suction power. The case also employs Microseal™ technology which helps to minimize noise, but most importantly, when equipped with a HEPA filter, the system captures 99.7% of dust and dirt particles.

With power controls conveniently located on the vacuum handle, you won’t be distracted from your cleaning tasks when changing a function on the Electrolux EL7024. The wand mounted switches provide fingertip control over vacuum, vacuum power level, and floor head. The vacuum canister is equipped with a light to show it’s operating performance, while the bag and filter indicators signal when the EL7024 needs a new vacuum bag and filter.

The Electrolux EL7024 comes standard with a 21 foot cord that retracts with the touch of a button, 7 foot hose, and telescoping wand, making most hard to reach places easier to vacuum. A bright headlight on the floor head improves visibility when vacuuming around and under furniture. The EL7024 combines light weight and low profile with large wheels making this vacuum cleaner easy to maneuver and use.

Electrolux EL7024 Vacuum Cleaner Review

The Electrolux EL7024 is generally an easy vacuum to use. Servicing the vacuum bag and filters is a breeze and the canister’s lightweight and large wheels allow it to tag along nicely as the vacuum is tugged across the floor during use.

The controls on the handle of the EL7024 make for quick adjustments as you’re working, however having a master on/off switch located on the canister body would be a nice additional feature. We also don’t like how the buttons must be held for several seconds before the vacuum takes action, meaning when you want to turn the vacuum on, you push and hold the button until the vacuum activates, same with turning it off – push and hold until the vacuum deactivates. All of the button functions have this delay. The EL7024 also likes its “auto” power level setting. If the vacuum nozzle becomes restricted it will immediately jump from low to auto/high, rather than staying or returning to the user designated setting when the restriction is cleared. It also resets to the “auto” setting each time the vacuum is turned off.

The telescoping wand on the EL7024 is a bit cumbersome to operate. It is not clear where to grab the different sections to make the adjustment. The vacuum wand has multiple locks along its extendable length (24.5 inches compact, 37.75 inches at full extension) so that the user can choose one of a multitude of lengths to suit their vacuum cleaning needs. The release mechanism to remove the wand from the floor head, while easy to operate, isn’t clearly marked and you must bend over and use your hands to disengage it. A better design would be to make the release lever large enough to flick with your toe, thereby not requiring the user to stop working to remove the floor head for quick spot cleaning before returning to floor work. Reconnecting the vacuum floor head is as easy as inserting the wand and pushing until it clicks.

The power floor head of the Electrolux EL7024 is also operated from the handle mounted controls, giving you the option of turning the vacuum brush roll on or off. The floor height control is a manual foot actuated lever that is stepped on once for medium height carpet, twice for high nap carpet, and the third time returns the vacuum’s floor head to the lowest possible setting for bare floors. There is another manual foot pedal that disengages the lock that keeps the vacuum wand in the “park” position. If you’re not careful, it’s easy to just step on the floor head and pull back on the vacuum wand, rather than use the release. The construction of the components in this area don’t instill confidence that they could withstand too many of these accidental, forcible releases before breaking. The floor head is equipped with a bright headlight to assist seeing around and under furniture, however when the roller bar is turned off, the headlight goes out as well. A small matter to be sure, but it would be beneficial for the light to remain on or be operator controlled.

The Electrolux EL7024 is definitely quieter than many of its competitors, though it’s not as quiet as the manufacturer makes it out to be. The vacuum canister and motor itself are very quiet, it’s the air turbulence through the wand and floor head as well as the floor head motor that get pretty loud.

Overall, the Electrolux EL7024 is a decent vacuum with good suction. We like that the vacuum bag capacity has been enlarged (though the manufacturer’s technical specs do no indicate a larger size), as well as the canister’s bag compartment, giving the vacuum bag more room to expand and effectively hold a larger quantity of material. A larger vacuum bag means longer cleaning periods between bag changes. We also like the HEPA filter serving double duty as the motor prefilter too, providing greater protection to the motor.

  1. Melissa O. Black says:

We purchased this vacuum twice. Yes, twice in two weeks. The first one we brought home wouldn’t turn off. It worked great, we loved everything about it. So, we gave electrolux a second chance and that was a decision I regret. The second one did the same thing after two weeks. It is obviously something faulty in the tube but it’s not worth the mutliple trips back and forth to the store. Very frustrating for a vacuum you spend $523.00 on. Very disappointing.Maybe in a couple of years they will have it figured out.

  2. Marc Blais says:

The vacuum works great when it works. The unit has a control panel made in CHINA and keeps blowing. The repair shop says they see these “all the time”. Electrolux has not made a change to the problem part. Calls to Electrolux were made and they suggested to purchase an extended plan! I have made three trips to the repair shop for warrenty repairs. I Will Not Purchase Another Electrolux Product! Bad enough they have a bad product but to not stand behind their junk is no way to do buisness.

  3. Sydney Calhoun says:

I purchased the vacuum a couple months ago because I loved using my daughter’s. She has an older model and it works great. The new EL7024 vaccum has great suction and the canister is lightweight. The on/off button postion sucks. I’m always accidently turning it off. The hose is too flimsy and if it gets twisted it shuts off the air-flow which turns the vacuum off.

  4. I just purchased an Electrolux canister vacuum at the end of September, 2011 because I had such a positive experience with the first two Electrolux vacuums I owned. My Epic 8000 lasted almost 20 years and the motor just went out on it! I ordered the Electrolux EL 7024A and will NEVER again buy another Electrolux product. It has problems with the motor on the canister as well as apparent wiring issues in the connections from the wand to the power nozzle. I’ve used it only twice and both times had problems with it. The first time, I heard a “popping” noise (like the sound a light bulb makes when it burns out) and the power nozzle motor stopped. Later, it started to work again. The second time the canister motor stopped but the power nozzle motor continued to run. I was unable to turn the power nozzle motor off using the the on/off button and had to unplug the vacuum to stop the power nozzle motor! Of course, the vacuum later worked. The company I purchased it from (CPO Electrolux) told me to contact Electrolux. Electrolux’s response was that the motor is designed to shut down when it overheats and I should expect that to happen. You are supposed to let it sit for 30 minutes to an hour to let it cool off, which is ridiculous. I hadn’t used it for more than an hour either time when it quit working. Since it works intermittently, I’m sure it will work when it’s sent in and I will then be liable for the cost of shipping, the cost for the authorized Electrolux repairman to look at it, and the cost for shipping it back to me. I’m stuck with this piece of junk with no recourse. DO NOT BUY AN ELECTROLUX. The product quality has gone downhill and they don’t care.

  5. shop vac filter says:

The vacuum works great when it works.I just purchased an Electrolux canister vacuum. It works really nice

  6. We purchased ours 3-4 years ago. We found it to be somewhat pricey, but decided to purchase it on the premise price might be indicative of quality. About a year into it the lock mechanism broke…. No biggie. It does a pretty good job of cleaning, but one would expect better at that price. It tends to shut down for 10-15 minutes for no apparent reason. It must be pulled along by the hose in normal use (at least the fact it has wheels makes me think so) but has taken to shutting off sometimes when pulling it along. The power button is placed where you tend to accidentally shut it off. As I am writing this review, the elbow on the power head where the hose attached broke off and I ended up writing this as a result of looking for parts and trying to determine if it is worth fixing. Overall I would advise against purchasing this product as it is overpriced and underwhelming .

  7. we found ours in the dumpster and my wife loves it i wish i hadn’t told her where i found it it works great. we would never pay the new price for a vacuum , now we feel like rich folks
